It was filled to the brim with wonderfulness, but was dominated by two things: Amy & Justin's wedding and the new R. Kelly album.
Goddammit, I think I'm turning into a lyrics person. I've been mega-obsessed with Leonard Cohen recently and then all of the sudden I discover this pretty sweet band called Coltrane Motion. I dug their sound and was listening to the album for the second time when I suddenly noticed they had some nice lines.
"Let's play 60s pop star/You be Ronnie/I'll be Phil"
"It's not a swagger/It's a limp."
"All my love songs turn into hymns."

Their album Songs About Music opens up with a quadruple salvo of awesome pop songs that touch just enough on shoegaze, new wave, 60s soul and indie rock to keep everything fresh. Then it kinda craps out, but whatever. At least the songs have clever meta-musical titles ("Dozier-Holland-Dozier", "I Guess The Kids Are OK", "Ex-Girlfriend In A Coma"). That always gets me off.

Here's a song. It's really good.
Coltrane Motion - How to Be

Also, hello journal, we haven't spoke in a while.

I did two things of note this weekend. One was play kickball. The other was finish cataloging my entire music collection.

A couple of months ago I decided to get plastic sleeves for all my records. And since I was going to have to go through my records one by one to put the sleeves on, I figured I might as well catalog them. I put them all on RateYourMusic, a user created database of records. After I finished that, I meant to do the same for my CDs, but I never got around to it.

Then, Justin introduced me to LaLa, a CD trading website. I decided to go through all my CDs looking for stuff that I was willing to trade, and I figured that was a good enough excuse to just catalog them all on RateYourMusic while I was at it. I finished the project last night. And now I have detailed information on my music collection. Here's the numbers.

Cassette	8
CD	575
CD-R	52
DVD	13
Vinyl	609
Other	1
SACD	8

93 of those got listed on Lala.com as potential trades. Hopefully I'll get rid of some wack old shit and get some hot new shit. I've already gotten rid of 5 lame promo CDs that I had and I'm getting 3 Neil Young albums, Wu Tang Forever and Three 6 Mafia's When the Smoke Clears in exchange.

Okay, so I was flipping through the RateYourMusic user reviews of the new Arcade Fire album Neon Bible (my short review: good, but not particularly exciting) when I found this gem from Mikey2000

"I just find it so hard to get through this album; it's so tedious and such a chore to listen to. The title track is OK and "My Body Is a Cage" kicks off towards the end, but that's it, the rest I just find painful. Infact, over this past couple of weeks I've been going off so called "indie rock" a lot.
There was a show at the Dinosaur House last night. It was a good way to spend Valentine's Day. The highlight was Tippy Canoe. They were awesome. So raunchy and cute at the same time, like a twee version of Miami Bass.

I will be DJing at another party on Saturday. Eric, who DJs at KXUA, is having a party with some out of town DJs and he wanted me to open. I'll be DJing from 10 to 11pm. I'm looking forward to it, needless to say.

I'm going on a trip! I'll be flying to College Park next week to visit the University of Maryland. They're flying me in on Thursday and I'll be coming back Friday evening, so it'll be a very quick trip. I'll be visiting Michigan State at the end of March which will be a longer excursion.

I've been accepted to the University of Maryland. However, it was to the M.A. in math education program, not the Ph.D. I think that's because their Ph.D. program assumes a masters degree instead of being an entire bachelors to doctorate program. I'd still be able to get an assistantship, so it's not much of a difference.
